Tour description

Wellington is the gateway to the South Island from the north, and in the heart of the country, it places us in prime position from which to start our tours.

You will enjoy more places to see and visit in any direction, starting from Wellington.

A five-day escorted coach tour starting from Wellington with a great introduction and orientation of Wellington city on the day of your arrival. After settling down in your accommodation, you will visit Mt Victoria the highest lookout point in Wellington where you can enjoy a spectacular 360 degree view of Wellington city followed by a visit to Te Papa, a world class museum displaying New Zealand's culture of the past and present. The next day you'll be departing from Wellington by ferry, where the adventure begins as you explore the top half of the South Island’s popular destinations of Picton, Blenheim and Kaikoura.

This tour is perfect for those wishing to enjoy a relaxing ferry crossing on a scenic journey through the Marlborough Sounds to Picton. The picturesque seaside town of Picton has an attractive seafront dotted with cafés, restaurants and various types of galleries.

On arrival, you have the afternoon free in Picton to relax or visit some other local attractions at your own leisure, or you can join one of our guides (in your leisure time) on an easy nature walk on the Waikawa Bay Track enjoying stunning views over the Marlborough Sounds from several spots.

Next day departing Picton to Kaikoura.

Enjoy photo stop opportunities and small town comfort and refreshment stops as we pass through beautiful scenery of rolling hill country en–route through our world famous wine-growing region of Blenheim. You'll enjoy rugged Kaikoura mountain ranges on one side of the road, the Pacific Ocean coastline on the other side with views of marine wildlife such as seals and penguins.

Experience Whale watching up close on a whale-watching boat at Kaikoura, New Zealand's only whale watch site and one of the only places in the world where you can easily see the magnificent sperm whales up close and personal. This place is teeming with other marine mammals, like the Pilot, Humpback and Southern Right whales, Orca, the largest of the dolphins, or even a mighty Blue Whale.

On the same day you’ll visit Ohau Point, a very short walk from the roadside, and you'll enjoy watching up close, playful seal pups at the base of a waterfall in their natural habitat.

Next day:

The winery region of Marlbourgh boasts some of the best vineyards and wines in the world. Here you will visit and experience the very best the region has to offer. The wine tour can also include arts, crafts, preserves, olive oil tastings, beer tastings and the renowned Prenzels Distillery tasting room.

Enjoy a lunch stop at one of Marlborough’s many fine Gourmet Winery Restaurants. (Some tasting fees may apply: (lunch is at your own cost.)
